Mount Up

Mount Up

Isaiah 40:31 "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."

We all know this verse and know that the Lord is there to give us strength when there is none left in us. When you think about an eagle, you likely have this picture of the prey bird that soars up high in the sky and seems to do this quite effortlessly. Then there is also this expression to have "eagle eyes". There is a specific reason why, in this verse, the Lord spoke about mounting up with wings like eagles. When an eagle flies up high, he can catch the currents of air up there, and in addition to that, he has a view that he would never have if he just stayed on the ground.

So, what does this have to do with you? When you wait upon the Lord, when you take time to come into His presence instead of just running off in the morning into hundred directions, or when you take time to stop, before making any decision and listening to His voice, this is the place you will be - high up in the air like an eagle.

The Lord wants you to catch the currents of air of the Holy Spirit that will enable you to do things that you could never have done before. Just think about the distances birds can fly high up in the air that they never could if they were closer to the ground. The Lord also wants you to have this bird's eye view so that you can see things from above and have an overview of what is going on and what needs your attention right now.

Are you feeling tired and overwhelmed today? Do you need some direction on what steps to take next in your family, in a relationship, at work, or in your ministry? Do you feel that things should run smoother, and you should be able to do things without so much effort? Then stop right now, and take time to wait upon the Lord.

Waiting upon the Lord means to stop running around like a headless chicken and coming into His presence first. It means to take time to listen to His voice and to receive His direction. Because once you have done that, received His view and His direction, and have waited on the Holy Spirit to enable you to do what you need to do, you will indeed be like this eagle high up in the sky. You will have the overview and the wisdom of what to do when. And, you will have the strength to run and not get weary and to walk and not faint! So, wait upon the Lord today, and then be the mighty warrior He called you to be!
