Romans 8: 28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
Do you really know and believe that all things work together for good? Do you believe that as a child of God, there’s no evil that can touch you except the Lord permits it for His greater purpose?
On Tuesday, September 3, 2013, I was driving to work in my car and listening to a CD of a ‘nice’ sermon or message that I had preached at my local church in Austin. This is something I rarely do; that is, listen to my own voice. Suddenly, I heard a big bang, and to my utter shock my car had been hit (T-boned) on the entire passenger side by a UPS delivery truck.
Within minutes, I was in the Emergency Room (ER) where doctors checked for injuries, broken bones, collapsed organs, and etc. To the glory of God, there was no injury, no broken bone etc. On been discharged from the ER, I asked one of my staff members who had come to see me at the ER to take me to the wrecker’s shop where my car had been towed in order to remove my personal belongings.
On Monday, September, 9, 2013 or so, I missed a call from a caller who identified himself as the guy that towed my car from the accident scene. He said in his voicemail that, “I sat in your car doing my paperwork prior to towing your car, and I turned on what I thought was the radio, but it was a CD playing and it was a preacher that was preaching. I listened and was struck by the truth I was hearing. Even after the car had been towed in and parked, I went back to the car during my lunch to listen to the sermon again. Eventually, I went to ask for a copy of the police report to see the name and contact information of the car owner.”
It was from the police report that he saw my name, phone number and called me to ask for a copy of the CD or where he could it to buy. A call that I missed and just saved the voicemail as I was still busy filing insurance claims, etc.
On Thursday, September 12, 2013, I went back to the wrecker’s shop to take the remaining personal belongings. On identifying myself at the front desk, this big, bulky guy screamed and asked, “Are you Mr. Oke? I left a voicemail on your phone. I called to ask for the CD that was playing in your car when you had the accident … my life hasn’t remained the same since I heard that sermon. I was brought up as a Christian, but I stopped going to church a few years ago … my mom had persuaded me to go back to church but ‘no!’ Please let me know how I can get hold of that CD … I haven’t been the same person since …”
All the time he was talking, the front desk lady was nodding her head throughout in affirmation. If there was any sense of loss, it all ‘evaporated with this man’s testimony of a transformed life from a message played on a CD.
What is that seemingly ugly situation, difficulty, disappointment etc. that you’re facing? Can you see that situation from an eternal perspective? Do you know what God is doing behind the scenes unknown to you? Please be encouraged today as a child of God that your Father in heaven has a greater purpose for every situation that we may face.
Prayer: Lord, I thank You for the situations in my life. Open my eyes to see the greater things that You are doing.
